Amblyopia – Let One Eye Not Suppress the Other! Our eyes are one of the most important things that we have in our lives. That's why it is in our best interest to have them working in perfect condition. Ailments like toxic amblyopia or common amblyopia shouldn't stop us from using our eyes correctly. What Is Amblyopia Or Lazy Eye?Amblyopia, also known as lazy eye, is a condition in which your eye suffers from poor vision. The cause behind this ailment goes back to our genetic inheritance. Due to an abnormal growth of the eye, the structural balance of the ocular globe is compromised. For that reason, it doesn't process adequately the light that is received by our sensors. On the other hand, there is strabismus. This is a completely different eye disorder, but many people may get confused on detecting amblyopia or strabismus. The latter, also known as heterotropia or crossed eye, is a dysfunction in which the eyes aren't properly aligned. The people who have it project an image of quirkiness. After all, we are the product of millions of years of evolution. If we find something that isn't symmetrical enough, we tend to avoid it. So, while lazy eye causes are related to errors in the structural configuration of the eye, strabismus involves a lack of coordination of the extra ocular muscles. Since the individual cannot coordinate his eyes, his binocular vision is compromised, affecting his perception of depth. It must be noted, though, that strabismus can cause amblyopia. How so? In order to compensate the errors in vision, the brain decides to ignore the information that it received from the eye that is deviated. For the brain, it is a better choice to have a poor vision than problems with the perception of depth. There is another kind of amblyopia called toxic amblyopia. In this case, amblyopia isn't caused by a genetic disorder inherited from the parents. On the contrary, it is a condition produced by a combination of poor nourishment and alcohol. An adequate nutrition program, full of vitamins and minerals, plus, the decontamination of the bo dy, can reverse the effects of toxic amblyopia.
