Best Cures And Corrective Treatment For AstigmatismMinor cases of astigmatism do not require any treatment. Currently, corrective treatment for astigmatism offers several non surgical and surgical options.
Prescription Eye WearA practical, convenient and affordable option that gives the wearer many style and comfort options. Prescriptions will need to be updated regularly as this is not a permanent cure for astigmatism.Toric Contact LensesCorrects astigmatism by reshaping the cornea with a plastic lens that is manufactured to the prescribed correction. Toric contacts come in both soft and hard lenses, but there are not any disposables lenses at this time.RGP (Rigid Gas Permeable) Contact LensesA rigid plastic lens that is manufactured to the prescribed correction used in Orthokeratology. This treatment can result in the permanent reshaping of the cornea to correct astigmatismConventional LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis)Surgery involves a procedure in which a flap of corneal tissue is created with a mechanical knife called the microkeratome. The laser energy is then applied to the cornea underneath the flap. The flap is then replaced to cover the area that has been reshaped by the laser. LASIK is FDA approved to treat farsightedness (hyperopia), nearsightedness (myopia), and astigmatismPRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) ASAPhotorefractive keratectomy surgeries are also known as Advanced Surface Ablation (ASA). In these procedures, no flap is created. The laser energy is applied directly to the surface of the cornea to flatten and reshape the area. PRK procedures can either be conventional or wave front-guided.PAI LASIK (Photoablative Inlay)The newest and most current LASIK treatment available. It is used to correct more severe visual acuity problems. A corneal flap is created and a synthetic PAI is placed on the stromal bed while the laser makes the correction on the inlay instead of the corneal tissue. The flap is replaced and vision acuity is restored.Phakic Intraocular Lens-PIOLA surgical procedure used to correct severe cases often when the visual correction needed is outside the correctable range required for LASIK eye surgery. No laser is used during this process and the inserts can be removed so this is NOT a permanent correction. The insert is a bit like a contact lens except that they are not visible and unlike contacts they are maintenance free. Depending on the type of correction needed, PIOL involves either a rigid lens or a flexible/foldable lens to be implanted in order to improve visual acuityProtect Your VisionBecause astigmatism is hereditary, there currently are no effective preventative measures. Visual health is vital to your overall well being, so be sure to get regular checkups to protect your visual acuity. Astigmatism contact lenses are both proven to be safe and effective in the treatment of astigmatism, and can also yield permanent vision correction results. To find out if you are an ideal candidate for surgery and explore other options available for astigmatism treatment, contact your optometrist or ophthalmologist in order to schedule a comprehensive evaluation.Related ArticlesCauses And Sure Cures For Dry EyesTop Remedies For Dealing with Annoying Eye Twitches Top Ten Eyelash Enhancement Tips Top Tips For Dealing With The Pink Eye Syndrome Fight the dark circle menace the natural way Proven Methods to Deal with Eye Bags and Puffy Eyes Practice Hygiene!
