Your annual check up is due: check with your Optometrist soon

Eye care is often the last item on people's list when it comes to medical care. Especially people who run a higher risk of eye problems such as old people and those suffering from conditions such as diabetes tend to ignore the fact that they should get regular checkups. On top of that it is often expensive to be insured for any eye care -related problem.

It is very normal for people to not think about getting a checkup especially when they are not noticing any eye problems. It is not always clear if you should go and make an appointment with either an optometrist or an ophthalmologist if you are experiencing problems. The optometrist can be seen as the first doctor to visit when there are eye related problems to deal with. He can deal with most problems and diseases or small injuries.

If surgery is needed people are refereed to an ophthalmologist. It is a good idea to visit an optometrist for a checkup once a year. This way, if there is a medical problem, costs can be kept low as the situation can be assessed in an early stage. People considering the so-called Lasik surgery procedure can contact an optometrist who will be able to assess whether people are actually able to have this kind of surgery performed. After that the surgery will be performed by a Lasik specialist.
