Anti-reflective coating Anti reflective coating is also called as antireflection coating. It refers to the thin layers of material that are added to the surface of lens. The purpose of this anti reflective coating is to reduce the amount of light refracted by the lens surface. So that glare is reduced and the optical quality is improved. In other words, it is a type of optical coating applied to lenses for reducing reflection from optical surfaces. It is not only used in lenses but also in other devices to reduce reflection. Consequently, the efficiency of the system as such is improved. It also makes the eyes of a glass -wearer more visible. Anti reflective coating are composed of transparent thin film structures along with the alternating layers of contrasting refractive index. Destructive and constructive interferences are produced by layer thickness. So the layer thickness is also chosen accordingly. Usually the simplest anti-reflective coating consists of a single quarter wave layer of transparent material. More Glossary Terms Explained here |
