Asthenopia

Asthenopia is an eye condition that causes symptoms like eye strain, red eyes, blurred vision, headaches and even double vision. These symptoms often occur after computer work, reading or other forms of activity that involve repetitive or tedious visual tasks. At times ashenopia can be caused by specific visual problems. It is generally considered a tiredness of the eyes due to repetitive use over a long period of time without rest. It is usually caused by a sustained effort to maintain focus on the one area, during times of study for example.

This type of eyestrain can be treated using hot or cold compresses and a low frequency treatment device. Many homeopathy therapies can be used such as the massage of pressure points and aromatherapy oils. Visual therapy may also be necessary to relieve the stress on the eyes. Taking regular breaks in future instances of maintained focus may also help the condition. Using protective screens over the monitors of computers and wearing eyeglasses while working for a long period in front of a computer or book may also be necessary. This type of problem can lead to other conditions if not properly taken care of.
