Corneal Injury Corneal injury refers to an injury to the cornea. Cornea is the curved transparent covering at the front of the eye. It usually works with the eye lens to focus the images on the retina. Corneal injuries are very common. There are also superficial corneal injuries called corneal abrasions which are believed to be caused by the invasion of foreign bodies to the eyes or overuse of contact lens or exposure to ultraviolet radiation. The symptoms of corneal injury include blurred vision, abnormal sensitivity to light, pain or foreign body sensation in the eye, redness of the eye or swollen eyelids. There are several tests done to identify corneal injury. There are standard ophthalmic exam, sit lamp examination and fluorescein dye staining of the eye surface.
