Polarized Lenses Polarized lenses refer to lenses that are used in eye glasses to protect the eyes from the extreme environments such as ocean, lake etc. They can reduce the glare from reflective surfaces. In other words, they refer to spectacle lenses which contain polarizing filters for eliminating the glare. They provide superior acuteness and enhance the color perception and also reduce eye pains and tiredness. Polarized lenses undergo a process called polarization. In polarization, light from the sun will be either absorbed or reflected diagonally, horizontally or vertically. Polarized lenses have a laminated surface with vertical stripes. These vertical stripes only allow vertically polarized light into the eyes. Since horizontally polarized light cannot enter the eyes, the glare is eliminated. Since the vertical polarizing stripes reduce the amount of light entering the eye, polarized lenses cannot be used as regular eye wears. Similarly at times, displays can be unreadable. Both horizontally and vertically polarized lenses are used in viewing three -dimensional movie. More Glossary Terms Explained here |
